Abstract:
Samples of single crystals of alpha-Al2O3:Ti were examined. Some of the samples underwent preliminary reducing thermal treatment at T = 1600-2100 K. As distinct from nominally pure corundum crystals, alpha-Al2O3:Ti can be made anion-defective at T congruent to 1800-1900 K. Optical, luminescence and thermal activation spectroscopy showed that the TL peak at 430 K in anion-defective alpha-Al2O3:Ti crystals and TLD-500 detectors was due to traps of similar origin.
