Abstract:
The possibility of using new, highly sensitive, thermoluminescent anion-defective alpha-Al2O3:C single crystals as TSEE detectors for skin dosimetry is investigated. It has been ascertained that after thermovacuum treatment these crystals have a high electron emission in the TSEE peak at 180-degrees-C after recording weakly penetrating radiation: 500-1000-mu-Gy-1.cm-2 for low-energy photons and 50 electrons per alpha particle with energy 5.5 MeV. TSEE and TL sensitivity of the crystal surface layers can be governed by eliminating oxygen vacancies in their structure when annealing in air.
