Abstract:
Nuclear quadrupole resonance (Cu-63,Cu-65-NQR) measurements in CuSiO3 have revealed an unexpected puzzling picture evidencing the absence of a noticeable local hyperfine magnetic field on Cu-63,Cu-65 nuclei in the antiferromagnetically ordered state below T-N approximate to 8.0 K, and considerable charge redistribution as compared with the CuGeO3 counterpart system. Unconventional ``nonmagnetic{''} behavior of copper ions in CuSiO3 points to a possibly nonmagnetic Cu1+ copper valent state with antiferromagnetically ordered oxygen surroundings. It means that the hole in the CuO2 cell should be localized at oxygen, rather than at copper sites. We suggest a qualitative physical reasoning for the ``sp hybridization induced oxygen hole stabilization effect{''} which is believed to be more pronounced in CuSiO3 as compared with CuGeO3.
