Abstract:
A combination of physicochemical methods-X-ray powder diffraction, thermal analysis, microscopic observations, contact anneals, electrical conductivity measurements as a function of temperature, and ESCA-were used to study the kinetics and macroscopic mechanism of solid-state reactions of Bi(2)O(3) with transition-metal oxides (Cr(2)O(3), Mn(2)O(3), Co(3)O(4)). The temperature ranges of reaction, the mechanism and direction of mass transfer, rate-controlling steps, and process rates were determined.
