Abstract:
Processes at the Bi2O3-Y2O3 interface that lead to the formation of solid electrolytes with different ratios of initial oxides are studied using electrochemical and conventional methods at 700 and 750 degrees C. The system behavior at 700 degrees C is found to be unusual in that the external electrical held of any direction affects both the nature (the held changes the nature of the process from multizone to single-zone) and the rate of the processes occurring at the interface (the held accelerates these). The impact of the held disappears above 720 +/- 10 degrees C, which is the temperature where Bi2O3 undergoes polymorphous transformation. The current-voltage curves for the Bi2O3-Y2O3 cell containing platinum electrodes are almost Linear. The potential difference generated spontaneously in the reaction course is close to zero at all temperatures, which is consistent with the oxygen-conducting nature of the phases being formed.
