Abstract:
Electrochemical techniques are applied to the reaction between Bi2O3 and WO3 who se products are the O2--solid electrolytes. At polarizations from -1.0 to 1.0 V and current densities from -50 to 10 mA/cm(2), the reaction rate is constant and the reaction potential difference is close to zero. Both these results are consistent with those predicted by the theory of the O2--conductors. The new model suggested maintains that the paths of charge and mass transport coincide during the synthesis of poorly conducting molybdates and tungstates. This leads to the exaltation of the limiting mass flow by the charge flow and to anomalous behavior of the reactions. During the synthesis of electrolytic phases, the charge transport in the bulk does not affect the mass transport over the surface.
