Abstract:
The software package DEFORM is used to construct a finite-element model to describe the roller drawing of tubes on a long mandrel. The model and a Box-Behnken design are then used to numerically study the effect of six process factors on the variation in the thickness of the tube wall. Regression equations are obtained to express the effects of these factors on the wall-thickness variation and the effect of each factor is analyzed. A new sizing method is proposed to make high-precision tubes by roller drawing, and an improved schedule is drawn up for the roller drawing of high-precision tubes made of stainless steel.
