Abstract:

A theoretical study has been made of the kinetics of spinodal decomposition in a shear-flowing colloid. The influence of the flow velocity gradient on the kinetics of spinodal decomposition and on the geometric structure of the system in the process of layering (phase segregation) has been evaluated. The change in effective viscosity of the colloid in the course of this process has also been analyzed. The results from the calculations are in qualitative agreement with the known experimental data.
