Abstract:
A distributed mathematical model describing the evolution of the internal structure and the growth of a colloidal aggregate is proposed. The model includes a nonlinear equation of diffusion of single particles, a kinetic equation accounting for the attachment of single particles to the aggregate skeleton and for their detachment, and the conditions of continuity of fluxes at the moving boundary of the aggregate. Asymptotic self-similar solutions corresponding to a fractal-like cluster with a quasi-dense core and a surrounding loose zone are found. The growth rate of the aggregate is changed from the diffusion-controlled regime to that limited by the kinetics as the aggregate grows larger.
