Abstract:
A principally new approach for the investigation of lattice vibrations induced by impurities charged with respect to the lattice has been proposed based on an observation of 3d impurity excitons strongly interacting with lattice vibrations. In the electroabsorption spectrum there are many zero-phonon line repetitions which include dominant and combination peaks. Very intensive combination peaks are repeated with the common frequency of the dominant mode. Such unusual structure is explained as a result of sufficient anharmonicity which is an inherent essential property of the dominant mode. Model calculations show that there is a pronounced lattice distortion near an impurity charged with respect to the lattice and the dominant mode is formed by Zn2+ ions for ZnSe:Ni and O-2 ions for ZnO:Ni. Thus, the ions of nearest environment play the main role in the formation of lattice vibrations induced by impurities charged with respect to the lattice The dominant mode has a resonant character for ZnSe:Ni and perhaps a local character for ZnO:Ni.
