Abstract:
The possibilities of increasing damping properties of martensitic (02Kh14N8M2T) and austenitic (05Kh11N11M3S2VT) aging spring steels were studied. These properties are substantially determined by heat treatment conditions providing the formation of the austenite that is unstable toward deformation. Structure, chemical composition, and the amount of the strengthening phases (Laves phases of the lambda(1) type) were studied. Work hardening of the steels and the effect of plastic deformation on damping were considered. An increase in the damping capacity to 5\% allows one to classify the steels to the damping ones. It is shown that the damping properties of the stainless spring steels studied can be controlled by heat treatment and plastic deformation both at room temperature and at, high temperatures.
