Abstract:
The features and advantages of Molten Salt Oxidation for destroying organic waste are outlined. Its mechanism is shown not to be catalysis by carbonate but by the formation and consumption of peroxide and superoxide ions. Operating temperatures can be reduced without loss of efficiency by using a carbonate eutectic with added nitrate. Experiments, using tributyl phosphate, to evaluate minimum operating criteria are described.
