Abstract:
The reaction in alkali metal chloride-based melts of hydrogen chloride on uranium, and rhenium metal and their dioxides, and on molybdenum metal, was studied between 600 and 700 degreesC. The progress of the reaction was regularly monitored in situ using electronic absorption spectroscopy. The findings obtained here are compared with results obtained earlier using chlorine. Preliminary experiments on the formation and kinetics of precipitation of rare earth phosphates from chloride melts are also reported.
