Abstract:
The ebullition of liquid in the front of an exothermal chemical reaction is studied experimentally and theoretically, using the example of reaction between aqueous solutions of hydrogen peroxide and potassium permanganate. The fields of temperature and concentration of reactants in the front of fast catalytic reactions are calculated. The theory of homogeneous nucleation is used to estimate the ebullition temperature in the front of the reaction between H2O2 and KMnO4 and under adiabatic conditions. The temperature in the reaction zone is measured, and this zone is microphotographed. The experimental results are compared with the results of calculation of the ebullition temperature.
