Abstract:
Results of studies of the effect of a pulse magnetic field on the amount of retained austenite in hardened steels of various chemical compositions are reviewed. High-intensity magnetic field causes additional formation of martensite, which can increase the hardness and the stability of sizes of parts. Treatment of hardened steels in magnetic field in addition to the effects obtained by cooling of the metal to a negative temperature lowers the amount of retained austenite to a minimum.
