Abstract:
The wear resistance of ten high-chromium nitrogen-containing (0.07-0.22 wt \% N) steels with mar tensitic, martensitic-ferritic, and martensitic-austenitic structures has been tested under abrasion action and sliding friction in oxidizing and nonoxidizing media and the mechanical properties of three martensitic nitro oen-containiner steels and steel 20Kh13 (0.19\% C) were studied. The martensitic-ferritic steels were found to have an enhanced wear resistance under conditions of sliding friction; the presence of nitrogen-containing metastable retained austenite was found to positively affect the wear resistance and decrease the friction coefficient of the martensitic-austenitic steels investigated. The additional alloying of nitrogen-containing steels with molybdenum and vanadium results in no increase in their wear resistance upon abrasion. A strong negative effect of friction-induced oxidation on the wear resistance of these steels tested in air was found. Upon tests under nonoxidizing conditions, the nitrogen-containing martensitic steels are comparable with the 20Kh13 steel in their wear resistance. A weaker effect of nitrogen (in comparison with carbon) on the strength properties of martensitic steels was found. An enhanced brittleness of nitrogen-containing martensitic steels was observed upon mechanical and tribological tests.
