Abstract:
The grain size of high-purity cobalt was shown to noticeably affect the temperatures of forward and reverse fcc--hcp transformations and the room-temperature yield strength. These dependences can be expressed by the Hall-Petch relationships, The results were explained using the Hornbogen assumption that, like the critical resolved shear stress for slip, the critical ``chemical{''} stress for shears on close-packed planes that realize the martensitic transformation depends on the parameters of structure imperfections (dislocation density, grain size, etc.).
