Abstract:
The giant thermal hysteresis of the longitudinal sound velocity and internal friction turns out to be a specific feature of the orthorhombic-to-rhombohedral structural transition in La1-xSrxMnO3 and La1-xBaxMnO3 manganites. The mixture of the orthorhombic and rhombohedral phases can exist far beyond the thermal hysteresis loop as it is observed in magnetization or resistivity experiment. This means that in the CMR manganites, the boundary between the crystal phases is fuzzy. (C) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
