Abstract:
A thermodynamic potential is suggested to describe the linearly polarized spin-density waves (SDWs) whose spectrum of wave vectors has no multiple harmonics. This potential depends on two order parameters, namely, the component of the antiferromagnetism vector in the direction of polarization and the amplitude of the charge-density wave (CDW). The characteristics of the potential are chosen in such a way that their magnetic part determines the values of the order parameters and the transition temperature, while their charge part controls the wave vectors of SDWs and CDWs. The wave vector of the charge-density wave was found to be twice as large in magnitude as that of the spin wave; this finding agrees with the experimental data for pure chromium.
