Abstract:
A new compound LiMg4(VO4)(3) is synthesized using solid-phase synthesis, and its crystal structure is studied by the Rietveld full-profile analysis method (QSAS). The tetragonal (space group I (4) over bar 2d, Z = 4) unit cell parameters are a = 6.86707(2) Angstrom and c = 18.9545(1) Angstrom. The LiMg4(VO4)(3) lattice consists of helices of edgesharing MgO6 octahedra. The VO4 tetrahedra connect the helices to form a three-dimensional framework. The lithium atom is located in the center of a distorted tetragonal prism with the nonequivalent Li-O distances 2.716(3) x 4 and 2.267(5) x 4 Angstrom. This compound is isostructural with NaMg4(VO4)(3).
