Abstract:
The available literature data on the crystal-liquid phase transition of elementary substances are reviewed. The melting line is taken in a wide range of pressure (temperature) with due regard for its metastable continuation into the negative-pressure region. By introducing the asymptotic value of pressure in the low-temperature limit for every substance, one can reveal the close-to-universal behavior of the entropy jump Delta (s) over tilde(1) in the case of division (16). The Simon equation in the form of (7) ex presses the idea of one-parameter thermodynamic similarity of the melting lines. Also treated are special cases of melting.
