Abstract:
Theoretical and experimental investigations have been made of the cyclic deformation of continuously cast slabs by a process including die reduction without preliminary all-over dressing using the heat of the cast metal in conditions close to isostatic compression with a degree of deformation per pass of 60-80\%. Mathematical modelling was used to assess the stress-strain state of metal deformed by this method with a knurled and smooth die working surface on entry and exit from the deformation zone, respectively. The deformation of sections taken from slabs of 12Kh18N10T steel was investigated, and the grain structure of the metal before and after deformation was studied. The results obtained indicate the considerable advantages of cyclic deformation using the heat of the cast metal without preliminary all-over dressing.
