Abstract:
A simple microscopic model was developed to calculate the boundaries of the limited-solubility region for mixed crystalline systems exhibiting a cooperative Jahn-Teller effect and containing orbitally non-degenerate ions at the positions of Jahn-Teller ions. The possibility of describing structural phase transitions and decomposition within the framework of a single mechanism (Jahn-Teller intersite interaction) was considered. Fragments of measured phase diagrams in the spinet-hausmannite region were compared with theoretical calculations for (Mn2+){[}{[}Mn2-c3+Bc3+]O-4] (B = Al, Cr) solid solutions.
