Abstract:
The goal here is to study the feasibility of reducing the consumption of molten pig iron during phosphorus conversion by using a carbon-bearing material. The completed study demonstrated the feasibility of using carbon-bearing materials as an additional heat carrier. The regime developed for adding coal to the furnace both before and after the hot-metal addition provides for normal operation, a reduction in pig consumption, and an increase in scrap consumption without adversely affecting the quality of the metal.
