Abstract:
Workers at the Karaganda Metallurgical Combine, the Central Scientific-Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy (TsNIIchermet), and the Ural Scientific-Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy (UralNIIchermet) conducted studies to develop efficient methods of reducing rephosphorization of the metal during tapping by preliminary removal of the converter slags and treatment of the metal with slag-forming compositions during tapping. The converter slags are removed by the method of thickening. The efficiency of the compositions was evaluated from the increase in phosphorus and sulfur content in the finished steel. One of the most effective methods is treatment with a slag-forming composition consisting of screened lime, fluorspar, and sinter and delivered in two batches (before and after the introduction of deoxidizers). This method reduces the degree of rephosphorization to 3. 4%.
