Abstract:
Investigations are performed by computer modeling and actual experiments. Introduction of a hydrogen atom into the molecular-dynamics model of liquid iron did not affect the short-range order in the liquid state and substantially increased the interatomic distances in the amorphous and crystalline states. Saturation of a liquid Fe-Si-C alloy with hydrogen in a real experiment led to its crystallization with substantial supercooling, while metastable phases appeared in the microstructure of the sample. Changes in the structure and properties of iron and its alloys upon hydrogenation are due to the high diffusional mobility of hydrogen in the iron matrix.
