Abstract:
The study of Rana arvalis Nilss. population inhabiting the area of Lake Berdanish, which is contaminated with radionuclides to a density of 1000-500 Ci/km2, revealed several specific cytological, cytogenetic, and phenotypic features indicating potential genetic risk for populations of this territory. The structure of the population under study differs from that of other natural R. arvalis populations, reflecting the unfavorable ecological situation in the area, and provides evidence for the presence of specific adaptive features ensuring the existence and reproduction of species populations under new conditions. © 1999 MAHK "Hayka/Interperiodica".
