Abstract:
A new design of granulation plant for blast furnace slags is described in which the slag is dispersed without water and cooled by 100-200 K before the dispersed material comes into contact with water. This greatly reduces sulphur transfer into the vapour phase. The design reduces the risk of explosions, gives a drier product, and is relatively cheap. It can be used at the furnace or as a centralised facility to which slag is taken in ladles.
