Abstract:

An installation for granulating slag straight from the blast furnace is described, and its operation examined. The installation has been adopted on the 5500 m3 no. 5 blast furnace at the Cherepovets Iron and Steel Combine (CherMK). The annual output is 1 150 000 t, an average 170 t of slag being discharged at a time. The dispersion obtained with the stack keeps hydrogen sulphide pollution well below the permissible level.
