Abstract:
A system for measuring the depth of a potential well by means of a particle beam is described. In this method the plasma is probed by a beam of neutral hydrogen or argon atoms at energies 5-15 keV. The well depth is inferred from the time dependence of the energy spectrum of the ions produced in the ionization of neutrals in the potential well. Two methods for measuring the time dependence of the potential are proposed.
