Abstract:
The feasibility of measuring the neutral-gas and plasma densities and of determining their space-time distributions in a pulsed coaxial plasma accelerator is studied under various operating conditions. The measurements are described. In fast operation of the accelerator the gas density before breakdown is lower, and the longitudinal density gradient is much higher, than in slow operation. The plasma density in the accelerator can reach 2 multiplied by (times) 10**1**5 cm** minus **3.
