Abstract:
Rabbits with experimental myocardial infarction showed from the first day after ligation of the descending branch of the left coronary artery to the end of the 3rd day an activation of myelopoiesis expressed in the peripheral blood in the form of neutrophilia, and in the bone marrow in the form of hyperplasia of the myeloid series and intensification of anaerobic glycolysis and respiration processes. The blood serum of the animals displayed, during the first two days after the onset of the infarction, leukoinhibitory properties causing depression of myelopoiesis in recipient rats and a reduction of anaerobic glycolysis of the bone marrow in vitro. After 3 days these blood serum properties were replaced by leukopoietic ones (stimulation of myelopoiesis in vivo and an increase in anaerobic glycolysis of the bone marrow in vitro). The findings correlated with the findings in patients suffering from myocardial infarction.
