Abstract:
The paper presents the method of increasing the tool life by the electrical insulation of the cutting tools. The existing implementation of this method, its advantages and disadvantages are considered. Here is presented a new way of increasing tool life consisting in the use of auxiliary mountings made of titanium alloy, on which the surface layer with high electrical resistance was applied by the thermal oxidation. The results of the research of the properties of the titanium alloys after thermal oxidation are presented. The effectiveness of the proposed way is shown when turning and drilling of the titanium alloys.
