Abstract:
Results are presented from potentiodynamic studies of the electroextraction of copper from nitrate solutions. The results yield new information on the effect of the composition of the electrolyte, current density, and the temperature of the process on the cathodic polarization of copper. The optimum values are found for the parameters and indices that characterize the electroextraction of copper from sulfate-nitrate solutions obtained in the nitric-acid leaching of a polymetallic sulfide-based material. It is shown that an increase in the concentration of nitric acid in the electrolyte does not significantly affect the indices of the process. Performing the electrolysis operation in several stages made it possible to bring the yield of copper up to 99.76\% and thus remove almost all of it from the solution.
