Abstract:
This paper presents the results of a study of the trapped hole center in lithium triborate crystals LiB3O5. The hyperfine structure of the ESR spectrum indicates that the unpaired electron spin interacts mainly with a B-11 nucleus. The following parameters of the ESR spectra were deduced through the study of the angular dependence of the spectrum: g(xx) =2.032, g(yy) =2.020, g(zz) =2.007. The ESR spectrum is consistent with the model of a center involving a hole trapped at an oxygen ion that bridges two borons, one three-coordinated and the other four-coordinated, in the vicinity of the negatively charged stabilizing structural defects. The most likely candidate for this stabilizing defect is a lithium vacancy.
