Abstract:
In the quasi-binary intermetallic compound Er0.55Y0.45Co2, an irreversible change of 44\% in the coefficient of the linear term of the low-temperature specific heat gamma is observed in zero field after application of a 5 T magnetic field in addition to the change in the electrical resistivity and unit cell volume. The decrease of gamma is attributed not only to the decrease in density of the electronic states, but also to the suppression of spin fluctuations.
