Abstract:
Conditions of the existence and regularities of phase separation of magnetic colloids exposed to magnetic field were studied using the thermodynamic perturbation theory for a model bidisperse system. The region of phase stability is entirely determined by small amounts of large particles present in a system. Highly concentrated droplet aggregates formed upon separation take up no more than 3\% of the volume of a system and cover virtually the entire large fraction. As a result, magnetic permeability of the substance of the droplet aggregates may be greater than that of the initial magnetic colloid by a factor of 10-20.
