Abstract:

The evolution of the spectrum of spherical aggregates in a metastable, supersaturated colloidal medium is examined on the basis of a kinetic equation for the size distribution function of the aggregates and the balance equation for the number of colloidal particles, describing the dynamics of removal of supersaturation of the matrix phase. Under real conditions, the asymptotic state of a colloid is extremely close to that of a monodisperse suspension of aggregates in a dilute dispersion of single particles.
