Traditions of celebrating Radio Day at Ural Federal University

The life of the Engineering School of Information Technologies, Telecommunications and Control Systems (RTF) of the Ural Federal University is always bubbling on the birthday of radio. The department alumni, radio specialists of different generations meet each other in academic buildings and on the street. They talk, share their experiences, and reсollect the wonderful years of their student life. In the evening, according to an established tradition, students, professors, and guests of the Institute arrange a famous procession from Kirov Square to the radio inventor monument in the center of Ekaterinburg. Some participants put on masquerade costumes and carry old monitors on stretchers. Radio specialists carry flags, banners with slogans, balloons. The participants shout famous chants (they rhyme in Russian): “All radio specialists know the three most necessary words since childhood: RTF, UrFU, POPOV!”, “Everyone knows this date – our holiday is May 7”, “There is no better place in the world than our beloved department!” The day ends with a concert program near the monument, a light show on the Vysotsky skyscraper and festive fireworks.

There is an interesting tradition associated with Alexander Popov monument. On the eve of Radio Day, student activists wash it with cleaning products.

The Ural Federal University Library congratulates everyone for whom this day is a professional holiday and invites you to get acquainted with the variety of resources on radio engineering sciences in Russian and other languages.
