The Theme of Family in Fiction
____

On July 8, Russians celebrate the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity.

The roots of the holiday come from the ancient centuries of Russian history. The choice of the date is connected with the memorial day of the Orthodox couple—Prince Peter of Murom and his wife Fevronia, who lived in the late 12th—early 13th centuries. These saints are considered the patrons of marriage, since during their lifetime they showed an example of strong and happy family relations. According to legend, the couple died on the same day—July 8, and were buried together, not parting even after the end of their livies.

You can learn about the touching story that formed the basis of the holiday from “The Tale of Peter and Fevronia of Murom”. This work written in the middle of the 16th century is a monument of ancient Russian literature. The Tale is written in the Old Slavonic language and has several literary translations. In the Library collection, it can be found on the Circulation Desk of Liberal Arts & Humanities (4 Turgeneva Street, Room 252) in the book “The Tale of Bygone Years”. Students of the Ural Federal University can read the story of love and fidelity of Peter and Fevronia in the electronic library system University Library ONLINE.

A happy family is a reason for joy, because strong family relations are a support for any person. In honour of the holiday, we offer you a selection of books from the Library collection that tell about family values and traditions, parenthood and love. You can get acquainted with it in the VK group Ural Federal University Library.
