The International Literacy Day is celebrated on September 8. Literacy plays one of the most significant roles in the formation of personality which is important for the world's population. As the famous American philosopher Alvin Toffler once said: “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.” If you agree with this statement come to our Library! The Library will be your navigator in the world of knowledge with great pleasure.
We offer you several ways to improve literacy.
1. Reading fiction. This is the best way to improve your literacy. It broadens the horizons and enriches knowledge, and, moreover, imperceptibly for a person it gives the skills of using literate written and oral speech, instills literary taste. Books in foreign languages can be taken on the Circulation Desk of Foreign Literature (4 Turgeneva St., Room 356), in Russian – on the Circulation Desk of Liberal Arts & Humanities (4 Turgeneva Street, Room 252). You can check the availability of the book you are interested in in the Library using the Electronic catalogue.
2. Frequent use of dictionaries. For this purpose use Electronic Library Systems subscribed by the University. Here you will find special sections with dictionaries, reference books, and encyclopedias that you can use right from home.
