The Memorials of Ural Federal University
____

On the 19th of October the largest university of the Ural region – Ural Federal University – turns 102 years old. Its most important symbols are monuments dedicated to iconic persons. Students, professors and workers come and go, a lot of the things change in the University structure, and only these monuments stay as witnesses to a century-story of Ural Federal University.

The monument to the soviet statesman Sergei Mironovich Kirov located in front of the main educational building on 19 Mira St. is the most famous one among multiple monuments scattered over the University territory. The figure of Kirov doesn’t even have a pedestal, it stands nearly the ground next to the moving and moving and noising around it student environment. There is a tradition to dress Kirov in robe and mortarboard on the day of graduation.

There is a park next to the university building on 48 Kuybysheva St. It was created in 1945 after the end of the Great Patriotic war. Student girls planted 121 poplar trees there to greet the workers and students who returned from the front. To commemorate these events a stone with memorial engraving was installed in the park.

In 2015 near the main educational building new memorials were opened:
• A sculpture composition “Love, Peace and Harmony”: two doves symbolize the relationship between two lovers, while a stone with the hands’ imprints of a man and a woman consolidates that union.
• The first-year students’ star. “This star is a look into the future. For the freshmen it is a kind of hint that within the years of study they will feel the spirit and ideas of their alma mater”, ¬ said UrFU Rector Victor Koksharov.

The complete list of the Ural Federal University memorials see in the UrFU Library VKontakte group.

UrFU Library wishes the University a happy birthday!
