On November 18 Ekaterinburg celebrates its foundation day. Its history dates back almost three centuries. The appearance of the city is shaped by detached houses of industrialists of the previous centuries, olden churches, legendary buildings of soviet constructivist style and even freshly built houses that are so unlike each other. Nowadays Ekaterinburg is a modern metropolis which is actively growing and developing. It is the industrial centre of the Urals which is base for almost 460 factories and manufacturing plants, the best known include Uralmash = Urals Machine-Building Plant, Verkh–Isetskiy Plant, and Uralkhimmash = Urals Chemical Machinery Plant. It is a cultural centre as well: there are 21 higher educational establishment, 16 professional theatres, 65 museums and art galleries; a lot of parks and avenues, many historic and modern monuments. In the collection of the University Library one can find books on the history and attractions of our city as well as fiction that is set in the capital of the Urals. The library staff have prepared a compilation of books covering different landmark milestones and featuring the safe nooks of the city upon the Iset.
