February 14 marks the day of love for books, as well as the day of people's love for each other. On this day, it is customary to give books to loved ones along with valentines.
The idea to celebrate International Book Giving Day belongs to an American Amy Broadmoore, a school librarian, blogger, founder of a children's book website and mother of three children. One day one of her sons asked Amy why there was no such a day in the year when people give books to children and each other. The child’s question determined the appearance of a new holiday in the calendar. Amy turned to familiar bloggers, social media users, colleagues, and site partners with a proposal to hold an annual book giving campaign on February 14. So, since 2012, the number of people celebrating on Valentine's Day another holiday ¬ the International Book Giving Day has been constantly growing all over the world. Since 2017, the holiday is celebrated in Russia.
The Ural Federal University Library congratulates all readers on this holiday and invites them to join and support the tradition of giving good books. We invite all concerned to participate in the action dedicated to this wonderful day. Let's give each other joy!
From February 13 to 18, the staff of the Circulation Desk of Liberal Arts & Humanities (4 Turgeneva Street, Room 252) will gladly receive your favorite books as gifts offering you in return to choose a surprise book wrapped in opaque paper. Rely on chance and luck, choose a book with your heart!
We remind you that you can always donate your books to the library or put them on the book crossing shelves at different library locations giving thus them a second life.
