The Circulation Desk of Foreign Literature (4 Turgeneva St., room 356) invites readers to the exhibition “The World Economy: Theory and Practice”.

The term “economy” appeared in the 4th century BC, when Xenophon wrote his work “Oeconomicus” (Ancient Greek: “Οἰκονομικός”). Back in the day this word meant learning about households. Thanks to Adam Smith’s works in the 18th century economy had already turned into an independent scientific branch. Now according to the dictionary definition, economy is understood as a type of a social science, the subject of which is the relationship of people in the production, distribution, exchange and consumption of goods and services. Besides that, economists distinguish three levels of economics: microeconomics, macroeconomics and the world economy.

By taking advantage of the experience of the past, studying of the world economy gives us an opportunity to see the main causes of world crises, unemployment and inflation in the 20th century. We can also understand how different countries found exits from emerging situations.

The books presented at the exhibition in English and German languages will introduce you to the theory and practice of economic processes on the world level. The works highlight issues of international business and economic policy, and reveal marketing strategies and the role of money in the world.

The exhibition will be available until the April 1st.
