The Ural Federal University Library continues to acquaint readers with the cultural heritage of Yekaterinburg.
Yekaterinburg in Literary Lines is the name of the new exhibition in the Library Exposition Hall (4 Turgeneva Street, Room 267) as part of the event series for the city's 300th anniversary, Book Tour of Yekaterinburg. This exhibition is a kind of guide to the city cultural life depicted in books, photographs, and visual arts.
Yekaterinburg has a rich literary history associated with the names of famous writers and poets such as Nikolai Nikonov, Vladislav Krapivin, Boris Ryzhy, Yuri Kazarin, Nikolai Kolyada, Anna Matveyeva, Alexey Salnikov, Olga Slavnikova, and many others. Today, the books of local writers are highly sought after and well received by readers. Familiarity with their creative biographies and works helps to better understand the history and culture of the hometown, expanding and enriching knowledge of the “small homeland”.
Dmitry Mamin-Sibiryak and Pavel Bazhov are undoubtedly iconic figures for the region. The folk works of these authors continue fascinating with their language and imagery to this day. The motifs of their tales and stories inspire the creativity of many Ural artists, regardless of the techniques and directions in which they work. The exposition is perfectly complemented by graphic illustrations to the works of the “Ural praisers” created by artist Viktor Georgievich Sysoнev, an associate professor of the Department of Cultural Studies and Design at the Ural Federal University.
We invite you to take an exciting literary journey through the capital of the Urals! The exhibition is open until the end of April. The Exposition Hall can be visited on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Experienced librarians will consult on all questions related to the exhibition.
