The Russian language day is celebrated around the world on the 6th of June. The celebration is connected with Alexander Pushkin being born on that date in the late 18th century. He is the greatest poet and novelist, who laid the foundation for the contemporary Russian language.

In Pushkin's works the lively folk speech is harmonically transformed into the Russian literary language, creating a unique combination and elevated style, sound lightness and simplicity of sentences. That is close to every reader and demanding critics.

The Library collection has an extensive selection of works by Pushkin: poems, fairy tales, prose and drama in printed and electronic form. The circulation desk of foreign literature values a two-volume book translated into English, which includes the poetry and prose of the author. And the department of rare books stores both the works of the poet himself, including lifetime editions, and numerous studies of his work published in the 19th-20th centuries. We will mention separately the books devoted to the years of Pushkin's studies at the Imperial Tsarskoye Selo (Alexander Lyceum since 1843). Information about this educational institution is reflected in the modern «Lyceum Encyclopedia».

Ural Federal University has a long tradition of teaching foreign students. Whatever is the University foreign graduate’s specialty, along with the diploma he takes away a great amount of cultural and historical knowledge about the country in which he lived and studied for several years. And if someone would ask him who is the most famous Russian writer, they will certainly answer – Alexander Pushkin.
