The rainy autumn days came, which made many people sad about the past summer and unfulfilled journeys. But today is the day when everyone can afford to go to the unexplored places that they have long dreamed of. On the 27th of September tourists from around the world celebrate World Tourism Day.
Millions of people annually make trips to new cities and short-term hikes, go on various excursions or sight-seeing on their own. There are so many unique places in the world, among which everyone can find something interesting. The Library has prepared an unusual journey for you –a journey through the book pages. Its goal is to make you aware of the Urals, a beautiful but harsh region lying right in the heart of Russia. Perhaps, after getting this immersive experience from reading books, you will decide to go and conquer the steepest peaks of the Ural Mountains.
The Urals is a real treasure for adventure lovers. This is how the author of the book «Traveling in the Urals» thinks. Evgeny Savenko is a photographer, local historian and geographer. He dedicates his book to the beauties of the Ural nature: mountains, caves, nature reserves and mineral deposits. The book is published in two languages: English and Russian.
As you may know, the Urals is famous for the large deposits of iron ore, gold and gems. The «Treasures of the Stone Belt» is the next book from the library's collection. It is a real encyclopedia of the natural resources of the region. It contains more than 700 high-quality colorful illustrations from the collections of the Ural Geological Museum. The publication is also bilingual.
The Ural Federal University library has many bilingual books. Reading such books allows you to significantly improve your knowledge of a foreign language: parallel reading in Russian and English helps to resolve emerging issues while you are getting acquainted with the text. You can use the library's electronic catalog to check the availability of those books on the circulation desks, in reading rooms and in information centers.
