“Even a mouse is happy in New Year day” (Chinese proverb)

There is no doubt that the New Year is one of the most anticipated holidays celebrated worldwide. China is no exception.

春节快乐,大家!祝你们在新的一年里万事如意!
恭喜发财!
天天快乐!
心想事成!

Chinese New Year, known as "Chūnjié" or the Spring Festival, is a vibrant and significant holiday celebrated not only in China but also across East Asia. Millions of Chinese people worldwide come together with their extended families to share dreams and hopes during this festive occasion. The history of this celebration spans centuries. This year, Chūnjié will commence on the 10th of February.

The upcoming year is dedicated to the Green Wooden Dragon, a symbol seen everywhere during the festivities. From decorations on buildings to dragon dance performances and even pancakes shaped like dragons on party tables, this mythical creature holds a special place in the Asian Zodiac Circle. Chinese myths are captivating due to their uniqueness and mystery. Our library offers a variety of books containing traditional legends, including "Myth of Ancient China" by Yuan Ke.

The vibrant Chūnjié holiday is traditionally celebrated at the Ural Federal University. Each year, the Confucius Institutes at UFU organize a festive program that includes calligraphy masterclasses, traditional music performances, tai chi demonstrations, and delightful treats for guests. We recommend "A Man and a Dragon" by Vsevolod Ovchinnickov for those interested in Chinese culture, as it serves as an insightful guide to China.

We invite you to join us in celebrating and exploring the enchanting world of Chinese culture. Our collection includes a diverse range of Chinese books suitable for those studying or interested in the language.
