In 2024 Sverdlovsk oblast celebrates its 90th anniversary. The region was established on January the 17th 1934 as a result of dividing of the Ural oblast on three separate subjects. Now there are Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk and Tyumen ones. In celebration of this significant date the Library has prepared a book exhibition named “The Sverdlovsk oblast: through the pages of history”.

The exhibition shows books and periodical editions from the Library`s collection. The editions will introduce you to the history of Sverdlovsk oblast foundation and the main points of its development as a major industrial, cultural and science country`s center. While searching the exhibition`s books you will learn about “the Ural gem belt”, the cities’ looks and main symbols of Middle and North Urals, where Sverdlovsk oblast is placed.

One of the most famous symbols of the region is the Ural writer Pavel Bazhov. This year marks the 145th anniversary of Bazhov's birth. Books of “The Ural Mountains` storyteller” section let you meet the world of his tales and learn more about this remarkable writer`s works. Besides, a gemstones collection is presented in a journal “Uralskiy sledopyt” (“The Ural Detective”). The stones remind of the ones that were described in Bazhov`s novels.

The special place of exhibition is for a map. It is taken from the outstanding Russian linguist A.K. Matveyev`s collection and demonstrates administrative and territorial boundaries of Sverdlovsk oblast of 1977.

We invite everyone to visit the exhibition (Turgeneva St. 4, room 267) and get acquainted with cultural and historical heritage of the year-hero region. You can attend an exhibition hall on weekdays from 9 am until 5 pm. Experienced librarians will consult you in case you have any questions.
The exhibition will last until June.
